Dear Larry and Sara
                           I have been now serving for more than 3 years with my fellow troops.  I’m sorry I didn’t return home after my enlistment period was over but I felt that I couldn’t leave until I had served my country to the full.  Quite recently I helped at Sherman’s March.  We marched through Georgia and completely destroyed Atlanta.  It gave us the advantage over the south since Atlanta was one of their major resource suppliers.  I was also very happy to hear that Lincoln got re-elected as president.  I believe him to be the push that we all need to win this war.

Hard Tack Recipe (Sebastian W)

Hard Tack Recipe First you are going to need: 2 c. whole wheat flour ½ to 1 c. water 6 pinches of salt 1 tbsp. vegetable shortening or oil Rolling pin Cookie sheet Instructions: First preheat the oven to 375 degrees Mix the flour and salt in a bowl with a large wooden spoon Slowly add water until dough will form.  Dough should not stick to hands or silverware but should still be squishy Roll out dough into a 1/2 inch thick rectangle Cut dough into equal pocket sized squares for battlefield Make 4 rows with 4 indents across each hardtack with a knife Turn on oven and place them in their for 30 minutes Flip over for another 30 minutes Take hardtacks out and let them cool Prepare for war. Letter Home Stephen Taylor (Sebastian W)

Dear Sara and Larry,                                         It's me your brother Stephen. I have left home to enlist and serve.  I heard last night that Lincoln was calling for 75,000 volunteers and when I heard of the states not following the constitution by secedin g I was very shocked, as you must have been.  Then when the confederates marched through Baltimore I was even more shocked, the first deaths of war not even during a battle .  Last night I realized that I must help our country overcome this obstacle.  I have hopes that this country will become great, but if I want that to happen then I must act with my fellow northerners.  I am sending this letter from Washington D.C. where I have enlisted.  I am part of a regiment called the United Defenders.  Me and the rest of the regiment get along really well.  I will miss both of you duri...
